I have a house full of people and instead I’m here at work with a desk full of jobs and tasks. It’s okay though, because I get to spend tonight with wonderful people.
Happy New Year to you all!

What are you resolving to do in the coming year and/or decade?
I’m definitely resolving to post more often.
Stay safe tonight.

This can be read several different ways, depending on how much/little you read into gendered nouns and titles and whole slew of other factors. Which word carries the emphasis for you? This is part of a series that I hope to continue across media and across a theme or two.
If you want more information on Art Every Day Month, check out Leah at Creative Every Day.
In case you’re curious, here’s what I have done so far for AEDM:
11/1 – Knitting (photos tomorrow or tonight)
11/2 – Knitting, Painting on canvass (photos coming soon)
11/3 – More Painting (photos soon)
11/4 – Digital art (see above), more knitting (in progress, no photos yet), and a bad painting (probably won’t photograph)

If you want to follow other participants in AEDM check out Creative Every Day, search for the #aedm hashtag on twitter, or check out the AEDM twitter list. Welcome to anyone who found their way here through twitter or CED! I plan to illustrate by hand tonight. If I have the energy I want to add colors and use lots of photographs to document it. I’m slacking on photos lately, but I am definitely enjoying AEDM and plan to try more extensive projects this weekend.

November is the month of Art Every Day for a Month

This year I’m participating rather than just observing everyone’s creativity like I did last year. You can find more information about Art Every Day for a Month here: http://creativeeveryday.com/art-every-day-month and it’s not too late to join! I’m hoping that this provides a boost intelectually and creatively because I’ve been feeling a tad unchallenged and uninspired. I started yesterday and as soon as I find the one camera that works, I’ll start posting about my daily work for this. I started yesterday with some fiber arts that I am SOOO excited about. I’ll have to take a picture before I get much further and you can really tell what it is since I’m hoping that a version of the project will make a great xmas gift. If I don’t work on that again tonight, my plan is to try painting. I’ve been playing with a couple ideas in my head and sketching for awhile. It’s a medium that I’m not very comfortable in, but part of what I hope to do with taking ont his challenge/project is to push myself a little bit creatively.

It’s super grey today and it’s really zapping my energy and creativity, but writing about this here has helped a bit. :D

Is anyone else participating? Let me know in the comments!

Photos to share

I found an old USB drive a few days ago and it had some wonderful treasures stored on it. Some of these were taken by me on my first camera that I received as an 8th birthday present. I love that I can still share them! The photographic quality leaves a little to be desired, but sometimes inspiration can come from somewhere you’ve already been. Care to walk with me?

All of the photos below are scans of original prints.

Check back in later this week for more goodies!

Skeletons in the Closet

No skeletons in the morbid or secret sense, but it’s the best-fitting category label I have for this post. So here we go:

o1. what are the top 5 bands you listen to while you’re crafting, cooking, dancing, etc. that give you the most inspiration?
(in no particular order)

Third Eye Blind
Santana
Blue October
Punk Goes ___ CDs
Jimi Hendrix

o2. what food will you eat until you are impossibly full? what food won’t you touch with a ten foot pole?
I could and do eat risotto (check out my next food post!) until I am impossibly full. It’s comfort food that tastes AMAZING! The only food I really haven’t developed a real taste for is the brussel sprout. Anyone have a good recipe? I’m open minded, I promise.

o3. favorite colors to craft in?
Turquoise, copper, and indigo … not necessarily together.

o4. if you could steal the entire wardrobe of one movie or show, what would it be?
Tough question! Maybe something like “The Edge of Love”. I like the feminine yet structured look that both of the leading ladies wear in that film.

o5. where are you the most comfortable and happy?
I’m probably the most comfortable snuggled on the couch with a blanket and book.

Anything else you’d like to know? Just ask!

Make it bake it or fake itThis is a simple dish that is great for when you want something fresh, filling, and warm. It fills the house with the kind of smells that remind me of Sunday dinner at my parents’, but without the huge mess and fuss. It’s a great meal that you can scale it up or down easily.

DSCF0013
INGREDIENTS:

  • About 1 oz per pound of pasta (but really to taste) Balsamic vinegar
  • Small pinch of salt
  • Small pinch of pepper
  • One Roma tomato per person, diced
  • Spaghetti – follow the servings on the box if you’re unsure or new to cooking pasta
  • About 2Table spoons of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Two cloves garlic, unless you’re shy about garlic, then stick to one

Start the water boiling for the pasta, some people like to add salt I don’t in this case. While it boils, slice and dice the tomato (or tomatoes if you’re cooking for more). Slice the ends off of the garlic cloves, crush them with the back of your knife and then remove the peel. (Side note: lemon juice can remove the smell from your hands later). Mince the garlic further if you don’t like strong garlic flavor. Put the olive oil garlic and salt into a container with the diced tomatoes. A big bowl works best so that all of the ingredients can mix and meld. When the pasta finishes cooking, drain it and toss it with the ingredients in the bowl. Add the vinegar and toss it again. Top it with some fresh basil, cracked pepper and sea salt for bonus points.

As the title states, I didn’t get to enjoy this because the cat jumped up on the counter while I was doing some wash and ate the ENTIRE sauce.

Hello crafters, friends, and other lovely lurkers!

Welcome!!
I’ve been avoiding writing this first post for a week or so and I have been blaming it on writer’s block, but really it’s a bit more complicated. I am an avid reader of many fascinating blogs and after I started the under-workings of this blog, I got a little intimidated and worried that no one would read or worse, that no one would appreciate what I had to say about crafting, inspiration, art, life, and food.  Anyhoo, I was inspired today by the simplicity and belief of a wonderful little love note that I was the (very) humble recipient of and decide that I should take the plunge.

So here I am.
How are you today? I really want to know. (I’m not one of those people to waste questions like that.) Oh dear, I’m afraid I’m rambling. Just stop me, if you catch me at that again please!

I created this space here to share several things with you all. If you check out the pages that are over there *points to the left* you can read about my Etsy shop. It’s sparsely populated at this point, but I’m making changes and pushing toward a more socially conscious branding and that’s taking me some time. I have new stuff that needs new photographs and all of that goodness. I’ll be sure to post when I update the shop. Another page up there lets you know about features that I have planned. I think it’s a good way to force writer’s block away by scheduling those things but also allowing myself to deviate as necessary or desired. I had fun creating the icons for those, as well. There’s a last little page there that tells you about the philosophy behind my little pet project “Love Knows No Gender”. I’m doing my best to get it off the ground because it means so much to me.
I hope to have regular updates with interesting finds and inspiration, along with current projects and challenges. If you’ve read today, drop me a little comment below with something you’d like to know about me or any of my projects!

Thanks for reading,
Court
